Cameron at 7 Months Old

June 29, 2009

Cameron was well overdue for some nicer pictures so momma and I dusted off the studio equipment and did some shooting of our little man. I cannot believe my little guy is 7 months old already. Where did the time go?

Maybe I’m just biased but I think that Cam has himself a bright future as a model. Just look how he works that scarf in the pics.

Enjoy!

What an awesome wedding. On Saturday, Scott and I shot down to Dunkirk, NY to photograph Nevia and James’ wedding. Just an amazing day. I could go on for hours about this wedding but I’ll just let the pictures do the talking for me ;) Thanks Nevia and James! You guys rock.

Enjoy!

The Hennigans

June 12, 2009

I got to photograph an amazing family a couple weeks ago. Mike, Jen and Ryan are good friends of ours and awesome individuals.
We went over to Knox Farm for the pics. I just love that place. It is so peaceful and there are so many different places to photograph around. Take a look at the pics in the high grass over there. Need I say more?

Cue the pics. Enjoy!

… did I mention portraits?

I just realized that my recent blog posts are all out of order. Oh well.
so anywho, on Friday I got to photograph an adorable family and their amazing children. I had such a good time running around and playing with them. It really showed and the pictures came out just so absolutely awesome. Their oldest daughter even made her way down from NYC to be a part of the pics which I thought was really cool. It reminds me that I am due for a trip to the Big Apple again real soon.

Photographing children in their environment doing their own thing is simply the best. No real posing no say cheese smiles… Instead, you get those true smiles that really capture their personalities. People are always asking me what “lifestyle portraiture” means. Well, the best way to explain is to just show you.

Check them out and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Scott and Karen

June 8, 2009

Scott and Karen got married on Saturday and it was a blast. They were married over at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum which was my first time there. That place was so cool it wasn’t even funny. They have all sorts of documents, and notes that were hand-written by many of the greats in American History.

From there, we shot over to the Marina and took some photos by the waterfront. We made our way to a naval ship and took some shots at this really cool bridge before stopping at Shanghai Reds for the reception.

Alright, enough talking. Here are some shots from their big day. Enjoy!

There are a lot of awesome pics there, Mike – can’t wait to see the full set. Thank you very much for capturing the day for us. You’re one heck of an artist!

Jordan Senior Rep

June 7, 2009

I had another great shoot today with Jordan. She is a high school senior and was a real joy to photograph. One of my inLIGHTin students even tagged along and shot with me. We started off down at her high school and then took a little trip to Burchfield Park where we finished things off. All in all it was a real amazing day and I got a lot of real great images. It’s too late for a big blog post so here’s just a teaser image from her shoot.

Rebecca and Jason

May 27, 2009

I shot an absolutely amazing wedding on Saturday. Jason and Rebecca got married on the 23rd and had their reception at the classy Delaware Park Casino. I had a smile on my face from start to finish and could not get over the passion and love these two have for one another. I think the highlight of the day was when Jason surprised Rebecca with a gospel choir during the ceremony where they reenacted the scene from the movie “Love, Actually” by singing “All You Need is Love”. THAT was cool!

We headed down to the Albright Knox Art Gallery for some shots of the two and I even got them to hop in one of those mini boats that they have by the lake… I still can’t believe that they said yes!

Here are some pics from their day. Thank you so much Jason and Rebecca for everything and have a safe trip back to Texas.

Rebecca posted the following on May 31, 2009 at 9:07 AM.

We love the photos. They are amazing. Thank you so much for the pictures of Jason’s mother. They have been a huge comfort to everyone to see how happy she was. The best decision we made besides each other :) was having you take our pictures. We will treasure them always!!!

Published! Yay.

May 27, 2009

I am super excited to have not one but TWO images published in a book. The book is entitled “Mastering the Nikon D700″ and it is by Darrell Young and James Johnson. My shots grace the opening chapters for chapters 4 and 9 and they look awesome!

Here is a link to the book in case you want to pick one up and support the cause ;)

Dotty & Travis

May 24, 2009

I got the opportunity to photograph an amazingly beautiful wedding last week. Dotty and Travis were married on May 17th over in Geneva NY’s Belhurst Castle. The place was absolutely amazing! Photographers, John Larkin and James Bass tagged along and helped capture Dotty & Travis’ special day. If you are ever in need of a photographer in Rochester or Syracuse then be sure to give those guys a call because they absolutely rock.

So enough with the small talk. Here are some of my favorites from their day. I have a new slideshow presentation software that you can see below. You can even open up the photos in full screen mode! Pretty cool huh?

Dotty and Travis, thank you so much for letting us capture your special day.

New Blog for 2009

May 21, 2009

There are a slew of reasons why I have done away with my old blog. It was hard having to leave behind a couple years worth of content but I think that it will be well worth it… In the past, I was having hosting issues where my blog took forever and a day to load up. I also had quite the time adding new features and hacking away at the site to make it exactly how I wanted. I just got this blog design out and hope you enjoy it. I will try my best to update it as frequently as possible so be sure to check back often.

This blog-site is meant to give you an insight as to who I am and what I am about. I try to post shots of my most recent work and even talk a little bit about what’s going on behind the scenes with Michael Alan Photography. I would recommend that you also check out my main flash-based website www.MichaelAlanPhoto.com to get a glimpse of my work until more content is added here. This year is jam packed with photo assignments so there will not be a shortage of blog posts by any means.

If this is your first time checking out my blog then welcome and thank you for stopping by. For those who don’t know me, my name is Michael and I am a professional photographer. I am based out of a small suburb of Buffalo called Lancaster, New York. I specialize in modern wedding and lifestyle photography. You may be asking yourself, what does that mean? Well, I’m glad you asked…

My approach to wedding photography is modern. It is a mix of capturing candid moments in between elegant, chic and fashionable images. One minute I will take a photo that’s right out of a copy of Grace Ormonde’s Wedding Style magazine while the next will be a photo-journalistic shot that captures the raw emotions of your day.

A similar approach is taken with my portrait photography. I photograph everything from newborns, children, families and high school seniors. Being a lifestyle photographer, I try to capture photos that are in your environment. This quite often takes me to your home or special hang out spots to take the photos. This way you are in your element and adds to your comfort. There are no “say cheese” moments here, rather it is true smiles that really show your true self.

Thanks for looking and be sure to comment on the posts if you see something you like.
Michael

PS. One of the big perks of this new blog-site is how it is tied in so closely with all the latest social networking sites. If you take a look at the bottom right-side all each post, you should notice little Facebook, Google and other icons which you can click on. By doing so, it provides you with a very convenient and fast way to link up your world with what’s going on in mine. For example, this is perfect if your shots are posted on my site and you want to whip up a quick update to tell your friends and family to check them out. Pretty sweet huh?

Lastly, I have a new slideshow presentation tool which allows your to view your photos in a really cool, high-tech manner. It even allows you the ability to view the pics in full screen mode! I say that’s awesome…
